When Kristen Mackie was on her second maternity leave from teaching, she started making jewellery at her kitchen table. This hobby of making one of a kind bracelets and necklaces soon grew into a full on business and eLiasz and eLLa Jewelry was born.
Mackie has always been interested in working with natural gemstones. When starting the business in 2013, she joined the farmers market community to sell her jewellery. Soon the popularity of the jewellery line grew to an online store and in about 120 different boutiques across Canada – the largest of which being Simons.
Now Mackie has manufacturers to handle the large quantity but she is still very involved in the designs of the collections. She works to create pieces for everyone that can be worn with every look – classic pieces that you can wear over and over again dressed up or casual. The designs are guided by trends like rose gold and rose quartz – both very popular right now – and inspiration from places Mackie has travelled like the colours and vibrant architecture in Europe.

It’s now a full time labour of love for both Mackie and her husband – she is the creative side and he is the business side. It’s been a great journey. She doesn’t miss the office life. Following her passion has paid off. “I wouldn’t trade it for all the amazing people we’ve been able to meet through our business.”
