Kaffa Roastery & Studio
Tucked in Edmonton’s Garneau neighbourhood, Kaffa is a cozy space located up the stairs in a building next to the Sugarbowl. The café combines a coffee roastery with an arts-focused gathering space, creating a setting that feels as much like a neighbourhood creative hub as a place to grab a morning drink.
Coffee is at the centre of Kaffa’s identity. The shop roasts its own beans, which can also be purchased to take home. The name Kaffa refers to the region in Ethiopia historically associated with the origins of coffee, tying the café’s name to the long history behind the drink it specializes in.
It’s easy to turn a stop for coffee into a casual breakfast or lunch with tempting sandwiches and baked goods like croissants, desserts and the locally famous Sugarbowl cinnamon buns. They also serve a variety of cocktails, wine, and beer.
But Kaffa’s appeal extends beyond what is in the cup. The space doubles as an art and performance venue, hosting musicians, artists, artisans and other community events. Its location also adds to the experience. The second-floor space offers views toward the North Saskatchewan River Valley and downtown, while the café’s eclectic surroundings give it a distinctive character.
With coffee, food, art, and community sharing the same address, Kaffa has created something more layered than a traditional café. It is a place to stop for a carefully prepared drink, stay for a while and discover what might be happening around you.
