An Edmonton interior designer’s pivotal journey of international recognition, limitless possibilities, and rock solid belief in herself.
Structurally speaking, this stunning home has good bones but it needed some love when Aness Handous found it online, one day after it was listed for sale in October 2019. Handous is the founder of Tailored Interiors Inc., a design firm based in Edmonton. She searched far and wide for the right house for more than two years while considering several options, including new builds and renovation properties. Finally, something about this particular house felt right. Handous recalls knowing this home purchase, design, and renovation would be a milestone that would mark her new status as an independent woman and successful mother of three.
In a conversation with Modern Luxuria Magazine, Handous passionately talked about how she had a feeling of “limitlessness” during the design and construction of the project. She pointed to what she calls “a life-changing trip” to England for the International Design and Architecture Awards that left her with a profound new belief in herself. ”I had the confidence to fully trust myself to unleash the potential that I had with creating great design. I was no longer afraid to be judged for my creations and my decisions.”

The home features a black, white, and gold colour scheme with pops of deep green accents, custom metal railings, and a dramatic kitchen that Handous refers to as “the heart of the home.” The project has recently been shortlisted for several awards at the International Design and Architecture Awards for 2020. Among the awards that Tailored Interiors Inc. is entered to win are the global awards for Best Living Space and Best Interior Design Scheme. The awards ceremony is slated to be held in London, England in September 2020 and Handous plans to be there.
