Part meditation, part sensory experience, Harmonic Egg offers a new tool for managing stress

According to a 2025 study by Logit Group, 40 per cent of Canadians report feeling more stressed than they did the previous year. While our stress increases, so do the options and tools available to combat the inner tension. One of Edmonton’s newest modalities for combating stress is an elliptical chamber called the Harmonic Egg.

The owner and facilitator of Harmonic Egg Edmonton, Devann Magas, first learned about the non-invasive approach to stress reduction when her aunt opened Foothills Harmonic Egg in southern Alberta. Magas was skeptical, but her first experience inside the egg was proof that this type of therapy, which combines sound and colour therapy with subtle vibration, could be deeply healing.

There are two important elements to Harmonic Egg therapy. The first is the egg itself. Constructed entirely of wood and lined with tone-rich mahogany, the large dodecahedron-shaped chamber holds a single zero-gravity chair for its user to comfortably recline while passively experiencing the session. Above and below the chair, colour therapy is integrated to wash over the user, while a speaker at each end of the chamber creates 360 degrees of sound frequencies and vibrations.

The second component of the experience is the curation of the session by the facilitator. The first session is always focused on nervous system regulation; additional sessions can focus on more specific areas of concern, whether that’s grief, trauma, or simply the need for a dedicated space to relax and recharge. Magas tailors each colour and music selection to the client’s needs. Using her experience, along with known colour theory and her own intuition, she curates an experience designed to have maximum impact.

Before each session, Magas sits with her client to discuss daily goals as well as set an intention for the practice. Once the client enters the chamber, Magas ensures they are comfortable and that the chair is well adjusted. The large door of the egg is on wheels, so there is never any worry about getting trapped inside, as it requires only a slight push to open. If any adjustments are needed during the session, pressing a doorbell in the side pocket of the chair alerts Magas to check in.

What we found most remarkable about the Harmonic Egg experience is the way it compressed our perception of time. A 50-minute session of colour and sound therapy felt like 15 minutes, and Magas said changes in time perception are not uncommon, with clients often remarking that sessions feel either surprisingly brief or much longer than expected. She also noted that most clients experience tranquility, deep relaxation and even euphoria after the session is complete.

In a world where stress is often part of daily routine, the Harmonic Egg offers a distraction-free space where peace and tranquility are part of a very innovative package.
