Outdoor adventure clothing and footwear sales are up for local business.
Summer holiday and vacation plans for many Edmontonians are vastly different from the trips they had planned in advance. For some local businesses, this is a good thing. With travel restrictions in place people are looking for alternate ways to spend their free time while the weather is warm.“They’re spending more time outdoors, locally where they don’t have to drive very far,” said Track N’ Trail owner Bob Schilf.
Track N’ Trail is an outdoor adventure specialty clothing, footwear, and equipment store with a location on Whyte Avenue and one in St. Albert.
According to Schilf, there are more people opting for hiking in 2020 and Track N’ Trail is seeing a lot of growth in their trail running product sales this year over last. “We do footwear and clothing for trail running and that’s just gone through the roof!” He says his customers are always telling him about trails they run. “You can run in the river valley. You can run east of the city, west of the city, all within half an hour, there are some awesome trails.”

Track N’ Trail went completely to online sales with curbside pick-up at the end of March and they closed the St. Albert location completely during lockdown. Even so, Track N’ Trail sales are up this year over last and Schilf credits the travel restrictions put in place due to the pandemic. Both stores are fully operational now but the doors do remain locked during business hours to ensure safe social distancing. Shoppers will have to knock on the door or call the number that is posted at the door when they arrive to browse.
